July 2017 Meeting: Gardens at their Heights

At our July 20, 2017 meeting, the featured speaker was Dr. Yonghao Li of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in New Haven, Connecticut.  Dr. Li presented a slide show featuring Spring and Summer Gardening Tips.

We learned about planning a garden, composting, mulching, proper pruning time, and tips on plant diseases.  Dr. Li also took time to answer questions about our gardening problems.

Horticulture chair, Joyce Fedorko spoke about how to build and maintain water features in the garden.

The month’s artistic theme was “Arrangement for the Front Entryway,” and included Heady Hydrangea (Class I), Bubbly Balloon Flowers (Class II), and Dependable Day Lilies (Class III).  Claire Norris described the plants that graced our Horticulture Table.
